Accessibility

The Starmeroids aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines, WCAG 2.2, at level AA.

Current accessibility features

Selectable text rather than essential information contained only in images.
Semantic headings, landmarks and navigation.
A skip link to the main content.
Visible keyboard focus.
Descriptive alternative text for memes and editorial artwork.
High contrast and readable text sizing.
A logical mobile and screen-reader reading order.

Meme descriptions

For political memes, alternative text describes the whole visual read: the setting, main people or characters, important speech bubbles and visible evidence, Tac’s role where relevant, and the top and bottom caption bars. The aim is accessible comedy, not an explanation of comedy.

Known limitations

The meme archive is still being built. Older memes will be added only after their descriptions and source files have been checked. Videos are hosted by YouTube and inherit YouTube’s accessibility behaviour.
